Granite is an igneous rock that formed when lava condenses slowly. Granite is made up of of quartz, feldspar, and other minerals and has a medium to coarse grain texture. Granite comes in a variety of shapes, textures, finishes, and thicknesses. The mineral makeup of the rock determines the color. Depending on the use, the format, thickness, and finishes may differ.

Granite slabs come in two thicknesses: 20mm and 30mm. Granite kitchen worktops, splashbacks, and upstands should be 20mm thick. Granite worksurfaces that are thicker than 20mm require more support and are more expensive. The edge of the granite worktop can be built-up to provide a thicker appearance, reducing the pressure on joinery. Intricate profiles can be found on 20mm granite worktops and bathroom vanity tops with built-up edges. During the quotation process, please specify the desired edge profile.

Granite is, without a doubt, the ideal material for an outdoor counter. Granite is extremely durable, and when properly cared for, it is resistant to staining from moisture or sunshine. While granite does require sealing on a regular basis, it is a reasonably simple material to maintain.
